RISING DRINKING TRENDS
"ZEBRA STRIPPING" & "BOOK ENDING"
At Perfect Peaks Brews we love an after surf sunset beer but equally recognise not every day calls for alcohol. Not drinking alcohol doesn't limit my appetite for hanging out in bars, BBQ's or music and sport events. A market report published by Kam Insights (https://kaminsight.com/) and a summary republished at Imbibe Live (https://live.imbibe.com/en-gb/blog/no-and-low/drinking-culture-trends.html), really resonated with me.
Essential points are:
31% of consumers leave early because of poor low or no alcohol options
44% of 18-24 years olds drink low or no alcohol alternatives
Over 50% of UK adults are moderating their drinking
Offering Low and No alcohol options lengthen the time consumers spend in bars
What can venus, events etc do to respond to this trend
Match the quality of your alcoholic offering with thought out non-alcoholic offering.
Stock a high-quality lower-sugar craft soft drink in your fridge as well. Not everyone wants an alcohol-free version of an alcoholic drink, but they still care about quality and sugar content.
Pick a range of beers, not just one; customers have different preferences regarding beer styles.
How can Perfect Peaks Brews help: We offer locally produced independent beers celebrating the outdoor life of Cascais Lisbon area, famed or their easy drinking nature and as a "Gateway" beer into the facinating and varied world of craft beer.
As a non alcoholic option we offer Perfect Peaks Sparkling Hop Water
0.00% Alc 0 Sugar/Sweetener 0 Synthetic Flavouring An innovative, unique, exciting effervescent and sophisticated healthy alternative to soda and sparkling water
A flavoured non-alcoholic option with no sugar or sweeteners offering sophisticated flavours all the health benefits of hops. A genuine refreshing healthy alternative to soda's and smoothies
Love complex flavours but not the alcohol of beer, wine & spirits. Love soda but don't want sugar or synthetic flavouring . Love tonic water but don't want the quinine, sugar or synthetic flavouring. Love sparkling water but wish it packed more of a punch!
Two trends go some way to explaining the fact lower alcohol consumption is actually leading to more time spent in bars. The research was carried out in the UK but with its large digital nomad population and ex pat community many of these trends are also relevant to the Lisbon area. As consumer it would be good to see a non-alcoholic option more sophisticated than Coke, Ice Tea and plain water! ZEBRA STRIPPING - alternately drinking an non-alcoholic option with an alcoholic option
BOOKENDING - Starting and ending the night with a non-alcoholic drink.
